SEED COATING WITH CONTROLLED RELEASE FORMULATIONS

Author:   Bruno C. SCHIFFERS
Abstract:
Seed dressing is prepared by combining a biologically active agent with excipients (polymer, resine, etc.) which regulate the delivery of the agent to the target. The benefits of seed dressing with controlled release formulations are potentially considerable compared with conventional formulation and application technologies :
  • they facilitate a more precise delivery of pesticide to the appropriate target site
  • they preserve biological activity at an effective level during critical periods and protect it from premature decomposition
  • they use much less pesticide for the same period of activity
  • they offer the advantage of combining two operations (sowing and treatment)
