ISHS Acta Horticulturae 253: IV International Symposium on Seed Research in Horticulture

HIGH TEMPERATURE DAMAGE IS ENCOUNTERED WITH TOMATO FRUITS AND SEEDS FROM SUN HEATING OF FRUITS NOT COVERED BY FOLIAGE.

Authors:   A. LIPTAY, L. MOORE
Abstract:
It was previously found that seeds harvested from tomato fruits grown under weedy conditions, had a much higher level of seed vigour than those grown in weed-free conditions.

It was postulated that the low seed vigour under weed-free conditions was a negative effect of insufficient foliage cover resulting in high fruit temperatures hindering fruit and seed development.
