ISHS Acta Horticulturae 252: I International Symposium on the Development of New Floricultural Crops

NEW APPROACHES TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF PROTEACEOUS PLANTS AS FLORICULTURAL COMMODITIES*

Authors:   J. Ben-Jaacov, A. Ackerman, S. Gilad, Y. Shchori
Abstract:
Proteaceous plants are difficult to cultivate under commercial Israeli conditions. Of the main potential types available, only few may be grown in Israel under simple field conditions. To widen the list of successfully grown types two main approaches are under investigation:
  1. Cultivation in inert growth media.
  2. The use of grafted plants.

The paper describes the research and development program being used in Israel to expand the production of proteaceous plants as cut flowers.
