ISHS Acta Horticulturae 251: III International Symposium on Growth Regulators in Ornamental Horticulture

EFFECT OF PROMALIN ON ORNAMENTAL MALUS AND PRUNUS SPECIES

Author:   M.K. Joustra
Abstract:
The growth regulator Promalin consists of equal parts of 6-benzylamino purine (BAP) and gibberellin A4+7 (GA4+7). It induces branching in several plant species.

It was tried to grow Malus and Prunus cultivars as a short, compact plant suitable for interior decoration. Branching experiments with Promalin, BAP, and GA4+7 on Malus 'Golden Hornet' and on Prunus triloba are discussed. Two reaction types are distinguished. In type one plants react with branching to BAP. Malus belongs to type one. Intype two plants react with branching to GA4+7. Prunus triloba belongs to type two.
