ISHS Acta Horticulturae 251: III International Symposium on Growth Regulators in Ornamental Horticulture

COMPARISON OF PACLOBUTRAZOL AND UNICONIZOLE ON FLORICULTURE CROPS

Authors:   James E. Barrett, Terril A. Nell
Abstract:
The growth retardant chemicals paclobutrazol and uniconizole were applied at varying concentrations to Petunia hybrida, Coleus blumei, Celosia argentea, Impatiens wallerana, Antirrhinum majus, Salvia splendens, Exacum affine, Chrysanthemum morifolium, and Cathranthus roseus. Generally for a similar effect on plant size, the quantity of paclobutrazol required was 4 to 10 times the quantity of uniconizole. Chrysanthemum had the greatest difference in sensitivity to the two chemicals. Cathranthus was more sensitive to both chemicals than the other species.
