ISHS Acta Horticulturae 251: III International Symposium on Growth Regulators in Ornamental Horticulture

PROPAGATION OF SOME SPECIES OF THE BROMELIACEAE FAMILY CULTURED IN VITRO

Authors:   K. Kukulczanka, B. Czastka
Abstract:
Regeneration abilities of the seedling explants of different species of the Bromeliaceae family have been investigated under in vitro conditions. The development of the axillary shoots of the ex-plants placed on the RM medium either solid /solidified with agar/ or liquid / used at half strength/ was noted. Enrichment of the RM medium with growth regulators increased the explant regeneration and organogenesis. The interaction between BA and NAA promoted formation of numerous buds and adventitious shoots, whereas the same amounts of kinetin and NAA induced the development of axillary shoots as well as root formation.

The worked-up method of mass propagation of the Tillandsia, Vriesea, and Puya species can be recomended for horticultural practice.
