STUDIES OF SOME PHYSIOLOGICAL PROCESSES DURING TULIP LEAF SENESCENCE INDUCED BY METHYL JASMONATE

Authors:   J. Puchalski, P. Klim, M. Saniewski, J. Nowacki
Abstract:
Senescence was induced in intact tulip leaves by means of methyl jasmonate applied onto the leaf surface in lanolin paste. In the senescent leaves in comparison to the control, green leaves, the ethylene production, EFE activity, ACC level and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity of electrophoretic isoforms was analysed. Methyl jasmonate did not affect the ethylene production, EFE activity and ACC level at the early stage of induced senescence in tulip leaves. On the other hand it was found that JA-Me stimulated the activity of two isoforms of superoxide dismutase. It seems that the senescence process induced by JA-Me was not connected with the activity of SOD.
