ISHS Acta Horticulturae 248: International Symposium on Models for Plant Growth, Environmental Control and Farm Management in Protected Cultivation

MODELLING PELARGONIUM ZONALE RESPONSE TO VARIOUS DAY AND NIGHT TEMPERATURES

Authors:   J. Pytlinski, H. Krug
Abstract:
In daylight growth chambers cutting-propagated plants of Pelargonium zonale cv. 'Mars' were cultivated at a large scale of mean temperatures and daily thermoperiodicities. The relation of the growth period to the 24 hours mean temperature can be described by a hyperbolic function. An additional effect is achieved by an increasing daily thermoperiodicity which depends on the temperature level. Plant weight at anthesis can be parameterized by a corresponding function. Having the same independent variables, both functions can be combined to one model. Due to subjective impressions, which are difficult to quantify, a comprehensive mathematical description of the marked quality was not achieved.
