Abstract:
Compared with a constant night temperature control, a daylight dependent night temperature control was proved to save energy -because of a lower mean temperature- without affecting yield and earliness.
A tentative explanation is given, thanks to a short-term carbon balance model : in the modulated temperature treatment, carbohydrate content would be maintained higher and would be less limiting for respiration and growth.
