ISHS Acta Horticulturae 248: International Symposium on Models for Plant Growth, Environmental Control and Farm Management in Protected Cultivation

INTEREST OF A CARBON BALANCE MODEL FOR ON-LINE GROWTH CONTROL : THE EXAMPLE OF A DAYLIGHT DEPENDENT NIGHT TEMPERATURE CONTROL

Author:   C. Gary
Abstract:
Compared with a constant night temperature control, a daylight dependent night temperature control was proved to save energy -because of a lower mean temperature- without affecting yield and earliness. A tentative explanation is given, thanks to a short-term carbon balance model : in the modulated temperature treatment, carbohydrate content would be maintained higher and would be less limiting for respiration and growth.
