ISHS Acta Horticulturae 248: International Symposium on Models for Plant Growth, Environmental Control and Farm Management in Protected Cultivation

A PREDICTION MODEL FOR FLORAL DEVELOPMENT OF SENECIO X HYBRIDUS HYL. 'MOLLS STAM'

Author:   R.U. Larsen
Abstract:
Plants of Cineraria were subjected to low temperature treatment (+10 °C) in a climate chamber and exposed to approximate temperatures of 15, 18, 21 and 24°C in a glass-house. This procedure was repeated at two-week intervals throughout a year and floral development was studied until anthesis. The effect of mean day temperature, daylength and daily light integral on daily rate of floral development was expressed in a mathematical model as an integral of an instantaneous development rate, with the integral scaled to give unity att anthesis. Corresponding phenologic stages of floral development were defined. Applications of the model in a system of flower production control are discussed.
