ISHS Acta Horticulturae 247: Research and Development Conference on Vegetables, the Market and the Producer

FRESH PRODUCE DISPLAY AND QUALITY STANDARDS

Author:   J. Prestia
Abstract:
The pattern of consumer needs is changing. There is a growing trend towards the importance of fresh produce and away from frozen and canned foods.

Experience gained over 30 years as a retailer and wholesaler has demonstrated the importance of attention to detail in the preparation and display of produce and sales-promoting materials. Much of this knowledge can be transmitted to new staff in special training programmes provided at the commencement of employment and as refresher courses during service. The materials used in these training courses are visual in nature, depicting the 'do's' and 'dont's' of effective marketing display. A selection of these photographs and teaching aids was displayed.
