ISHS Acta Horticulturae 247: Research and Development Conference on Vegetables, the Market and the Producer

A MARKET NICHE FOR EARLY ASPARAGUS GROWN IN QUEENSLAND

Author:   G. Fullelove
Abstract:
Asparagus has the potential to be a high value alternative crop in south-east Queensland. At present the major producing areas of green asparagus for the fresh market are Maitland, Dubbo, and the Murray-Riverina region of N.S.W. and Koo Wee Rup in Victoria. Currently interest is being shown in producing asparagus in Bundaberg and the Lockyer Valley.

There are several factors which make asparagus worthy of consideration as an alternative crop for suitable districts in south-east Queensland.
