RECALCITRANT WEEDS IN HERBICIDE TRIALS AT CAMDEN, NSW. |

| Abstract:
Herbicide trials conducted over a number of years in several vegetable crops have revealed a number of species of weeds that prove recalcitrant in the Nepean Valley at Camden, NSW. The dominant species present in a particular crop depend mainly on time of sowing, the herbicide applied and seasonal conditions. The principal weed species giving concern are Arctotheca calendula, Cotula australis and Galinsoga parviflora, (Asteraceae); Coronopus didymus and Raphanus raphanistrum (Brassicaceae); Nicandra physalodes (Solanaceae); Emex australis and Rumex crispus (Polygonaceae) and the winter grasses Bromus catharticus, Lolium spp. and Poa annua. With recent removal of certain herbicides from those registered for use, the problem of recalcitrant weeds is expected to intensify unless suitable alternative chemicals are found. | |
