NEW BRUSSELS SPROUTS CULTIVARS MEET BETTER MARKET APPROVAL

Author:   G.J. Lomman
Abstract:
Eleven hybrids and three open pollinated cultivars, were compared for yield and mean weight of brussels sprouts. Of all the cultivars tested only Oliver and Roger were high yielding at 63 and 78 t ha-1 and free of defects such as centre rot, low density and wrinkling of the sprout leaves. Roger and Oliver also produced brussels sprouts of the highest mean weights of 29 g and 28 g respectively just above the market requirement of 25 g.
