TIPBURN, RESISTANCE TO BOLTING AND YIELD OF LONG AND SHORT CHINESE CABBAGE CULTIVARS |

| Abstract:
Of eight long cultivars, Jade Pagoda and BF 123 were either highest in head weight or not significantly below the highest head weight at a given site. They hearted satisfactorily and were most resistant to tipburn and "bolting". They measured 28–37 cm in head length depending on the site. Of six short cultivars, Hong Kong and Ming Emperor produced 33% lower head weights than BF 060 at Gawler River (P< 0.001), but they formed better hearts and were more resistant to tipburn and "bolting" than the large headed BF 060. Hong Kong and Ming Emperor were about equal in length measuring 20–25 cm. BF 120 was highly susceptible to "bolting". | |
