ISHS Acta Horticulturae 246: International Symposium on Protected Cultivation of Ornamentals in Mild Winter Climates

INTRODUCTION OF THE CULTIVATION OF ORNAMENTAL PLANTS IN GREENHOUSES, BY INTENSIVE HORTICULTURE ON THE MEDITERRANEAN COASTSTRIP BETWEEN AGUILAS AND MAZARRON.

Author:   J. Serna
Abstract:
The scope is to present the natural conditions of these areas and to demonstrate the great possibilities thay have for the production of indoor ornamental plants and cut flowers, grown in greenhouses without heating in winter. It contains as well an economic study of 2 000 m2 greenhouse for the production of Dieffenbachia Tropic Snow and Dracaena Deremensis, in which one can observe, among other ratios, an increase of investments, higher economic yields, an increasing need of labour and a considerable saving of a very precious element in these areas, water.
