ISHS Acta Horticulturae 246: International Symposium on Protected Cultivation of Ornamentals in Mild Winter Climates

EFFECT OF GA3 TREATMENTS ON FLOWERING OF GERBERA GROWN FOR WINTER PRODUCTION.

Authors:   E. Farina, T. Paterniani, L. Volpi
Abstract:
The results of trials concerning GA3 applications on 3 cvs. of Gerbera grown at a minimum air temperature of 12°C for winter production of cut flowers are referred.

For the cv. Joyce monthly sprays at 100 p.p.m. from November to February caused an increase of winter production counterbalanced by a lower productivity in the following period.

Different results were obtained depending on variety.

Repeated GA3 treatments on the same plots gave no results in the course of the second year.

The treatments caused no effect on peduncle lenght but increased the diameter of inflorescence.

On the whole the GA3 treatments undoubtedly proved interesting from an economic point of view in the case of the cv. Joyce, however, more work is necessary to test the effect of variety and of growth regulator concentration.
