ISHS Acta Horticulturae 246: International Symposium on Protected Cultivation of Ornamentals in Mild Winter Climates

EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON SOME ORNAMENTAL ALLIUMS

Authors:   K. Zimmer, K. Weckeck
Abstract:
Effects of different temperatures during dry storage or after planting on leaf and inflorescence differentiation, root growth, bud and leaf elongation and flowering is demonstrated in Allium aflatunense, A. christophii and A. neapolitanum.

While flower formation seem to be possible in a wide range of temperature in A. aflatunense, around 17 °C in A. christophii and 10–15 °C in A. neapolitanum, low temperature requirement for elongation of leaves and scapes is to observe in A. aflatunense and A. christophii, but not to this extent in A. neapolitanum.
