Abstract:
Flowering of Calathea crocata is induced naturally during short day period.
Several experiments have shown that obscuring doesn't always have the same effect : if temperature is too high, flower inductions fails.
In consequence, the production of flowering plants through the year requires an excellent control of the microclimate; this can be carried out in multiple layer cells.
In this experiment, the effect of several climate parameters on the flowering induction of Calathea crocata was investigated : the daylength was 8 or 10 h; the irradiance obtained by fluorescence 46 or 61 μmol.s-1 .m-2; the irradiance by incandescent lamps was 0 or 10 μmol. s-1 .m-2; the plants were from two different origins.
The effect of the duration of the short day treatment was also investigated.
