ISHS Acta Horticulturae 245: Engineering and Economic Aspects of Energy Saving in Protected Cultivation

ELECTRICITY COSTS OF A SELF PRODUCING TE-INSTALLATION

Authors:   A.P. Verhaegh, C.J.M. Vernooy
Abstract:
At this moment a small but increasing number of Dutch growers, who specialize in glasshouse crops, cover their needs for electricity with "Total Energy" (TE) installed on their holdings. Data have been collected about capacity, type of holding, investments and monthly production on an annual basis. Significant correlations have been found between te use of fuel the production of electricity and the capacity of the TE. The costs per kWh for different types of holdings have been calculated. The growers can in this way compare their costs with the price of the electricity from power stations.
