ISHS Acta Horticulturae 245: Engineering and Economic Aspects of Energy Saving in Protected Cultivation

THE TWOFOLD EFFECT OF AN ALUMINIUM SCREEN: A TEMPERATURE INCREASE IN WINTER AND A TEMPERATURE DECREASE IN SUMMER.

Author:   T.M. Goebertus
Abstract:
In order to protrect a crop against extreme weather conditions and to regulate cultivation better it is evident that plastic tunnels, multispan houses, plastic houses or glasshouses are used with little or no heating at all. Yet in spite of all these precautions you are often disappointed by a poor harvest, mediocre or low quality produce, or complete crop failure. This is the result of two major problems: during daylight hours in summer, too much sun comes in (and therefore too much temperature), while during winter nights the accumulated heat is dissipated too quickly.
