RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE PROPERTIES OF COVERED MATERIALS AND THE HUMIDITY (FOG FORMATION) IN THE PLASTIC GREENHOUSES

Abstract:
The relationship between the properties of PVC films and the humidity (especially, fog formation) in the greenhouses was investigated. It was concluded that fog formation or density is closely related to the easy flow of water adhered to the film, and the ease with which vapor adheres to the film surface (adhesive force between film surface and water). Those properties of PVC films can be changed by surface active agent contained in the films. Addition of surfacant F(fluorine group) to films containing surfacant Sa(sorbitan group), greatly reduced fog formation or density in the greenhouses. The fog formation or density, humidity, minimum temperature and amount of water flowed down on the film for six kinds of films, i.e., polyolefin, EVA, PE, non-dropping type PVC, non-fog formation type PVC and dropping type PVC were observed. In the greenhouses covered with non-fog formation type PVC and dropping type PVC, fog formation or density was less.
