ISHS Acta Horticulturae 245: Engineering and Economic Aspects of Energy Saving in Protected Cultivation

SUBSTITUTION OF HEATING ENERGY BY ARTIFICIAL LIGHT

Author:   C. Dumke
Abstract:
The share of the excess energy of artificial lighting of the total heat consumption has been investigated in a very good insulated greenhouse. Measured and calculated data of the energy conversion from electricity to sensible heat show, that almost 100% of the electric energy can be expected as energy input. This has to be considered for the calculation of the necessary heating energy and the total energy cost.

For an overall evaluation of the use of artificial light in greenhouses, heat and electricity consumption, the greenhouse construction and the light conditions have to be regarded simultaneously.
