GREENHOUSE HEATING WITH WASTE HEAT AS BASE LOAD

Author:   P. Knies
Abstract:
Three alternatives for heating greenhouses using waste heat as base load viz. an air, a convective and a floor/convective heating system, were implemented and tested. Measurements showed that the greenhouse air temperature in an imaginary horizontal plane at 1 m height is distributed quite even, premising a long period is taken into consideration. Short term differences between the temperature near the outside wall area and the middle of the greenhouse emanated from improper balance between wall heat losses and wall heating power. Further it appeared that the consumption of electric energy for driving the fan of the air heating system is considerable. Differences were found in the heat consumption of the systems involved. Probably this finding is related to dissimilarity of the relevant time constants of the systems or to small variations in the computer control codes.
