TESTS ON A GREENHOUSE EQUIPPED WITH SOLAR INPUT SURPLUS UNDERGROUND STORAGE SYSTEM

Abstract:
The climatic conditions of the center-South Italian regions are characterized by moderate winter average temperatures ( > 0°C), solar energy abundance and great daily excursions (about 10°C). The use in these conditions of a storage system of the energetic solar surplus directly in the cultivation substrate, in view of its utilization during the night, can lead to a better control of the greenhouse daily ambient temperature and to a positive energy saving of the night heating needs.

This paper deals with a project relative to a solar heat underground storage coupled to a greenhouse through a forced air circulation system in 40 cm deep buried rotocompressed concrete pipes. The design was realized with the aid of a mathematical model which was for this reason implemented.

The paper refers not only to the technological and material choice aspects of the adopted solution, but also to the economical ones taking into account the expected saving of energy deriving from the adoption of the non-conventional heating system. The installation has been put into operation at the beginning of the summer period and has been totally monitored, therefore the first results are reported from the summer operation of the installation.
