ISHS Acta Horticulturae 239: VI International Symposium on Growth Regulators in Fruit Production

POLYAMINES AND FRUIT SET IN TREES OF PRUNUS CERASUS L.

Authors:   L. Schoonjans, N. Podoor, M. De Scheemaecker, J.M.C. Geuns
Abstract:
Sour cherry trees (Prunus cerasus L. cv Schattenmorelle) on F12/1 in Rillaar, Belgium showed great tree-to-tree variability in fruit set. Within each tree the upper branches had a higher fruit set than the lower branches. These differences in fruit set were associated with variation in ovule longevity. The principal polyamines in the ovary were putrescine and spermidine which occurred in the young fruits of highly productive and less productive trees in equal concentrations per g fresh weight.
