ISHS Acta Horticulturae 239: VI International Symposium on Growth Regulators in Fruit Production

DERIVATIVES OF SOME ALIPHATIC DICARBOXYLIC ACIDS: THEIR INFLUENCE ON VEGETATIVE GROWTH OF FRUIT TREES

Authors:   E.N. Karanov, G.Ts. Georgiev, V.S. Alexieva, S.I. Mavrodiev
Abstract:
The shoot growth retarding influence of itaconic acid monomethyl ester (IAME) and succinic acid monoethyl ester (SAEE) on apples, pears, sweet cherries and sour cherries was compared with succinic acid mono-N, N-dimethylhydrazide (daminozide). IAME and SAEE proved to be effective in growth reduction when applied 2 weeks post-bloom. The retarding influence of IAME and SAEE on the apple shoots was greater than that of daminozide. A fruit thinning effect of IAME and SAEE on apples was also obtained. The reduction of shoot growth of pears, sweet cherries and sour cherries treated with IAME and SAEE was nearly equivalent to that caused by daminozide.
