ISHS Acta Horticulturae 239: VI International Symposium on Growth Regulators in Fruit Production

MEASURING THE EFFECTS OF GROWTH REGULATORS ON THE VEGETATIVE GROWTH - FRUITING RELATIONSHIP IN APPLE TREES

Author:   C.G. Forshey
Abstract:
Growth regulator treatments that increase fruiting or reduce shoot growth of apple trees suggest changes in the vegetative growth-fruiting relationship. Shoot growth is a common index of vegetative growth, and relating shoot growth to yield provides an indicator of changes in the vegetative growth-fruiting relationship. However, such changes are circumstantial evidence only, and no direct effects of growth regulator treatment on dry matter allocation have yet been demonstrated.
