Abstract:
Growth regulator treatments that increase fruiting or reduce shoot growth of apple trees suggest changes in the vegetative growth-fruiting relationship.
Shoot growth is a common index of vegetative growth, and relating shoot growth to yield provides an indicator of changes in the vegetative growth-fruiting relationship.
However, such changes are circumstantial evidence only, and no direct effects of growth regulator treatment on dry matter allocation have yet been demonstrated.
