FACTORS CONTROLLING THE UPTAKE AND TRANSPORT OF FOLIAR APPLIED XENOBIOTICS: AN OVERVIEW

Authors:   Edward A. Baker, Ann L. Hayes, Grace M. Hunt
Abstract:
Factors controlling the uptake, translocation and biological performance of foliar applied xenobiotics are considered in relation to the physico-chemical properties of the active ingredient and formulants, the form and distribution of the spray deposit, and variations in spray parameters such as dose, droplet size and number, concentration and application volume. Particular emphasis is given to an evaluation of the role of surfactants in droplet retention and foliar uptake. The paper also reviews the techniques used for the application and analysis of spray chemicals and the quantitative measurement of biological response.
