ISHS Acta Horticulturae 238: Symposium on Substrates in Horticulture other than Soils in situ

NUTRIENT CONTENT OF VARIOUS POT PLANT SPECIES AS INFLUENCED BY SUPPLEMENTARY LIGHTING

Authors:   H. Andersen, M. Hansen
Abstract:
A number of pot plant species were grown from December 1986 to spring 1987 either under natural daylength conditions or under supplementary lighting.

When grown to marketable stage the plants were subjected to chemical analysis. Marked responses to supplementary lighting as expressed by concentrations of mineral nutrients in the dry matter of the plant material were observed. The responses were systematic concerning some nutrients and markedly plant specific regarding others. Some nutrient concentrations were not influenced by the supplementary lighting and the magnitude of responses differed widely among plant species.
