ISHS Acta Horticulturae 236: V International Symposium on Small Fruit Virus Diseases

EVALUATON OF SEVERAL INDICATOR PLANTS FOR INDEXING STRAWBERRY PLANTS FOR VIRUS AND VIRUSLIKE DISEASES

Authors:   H. Bormans, G.L. Gilles
Abstract:
Viruses such as mild yellow-edge, crinkle and mottle, alone or in combination, can cause serious damage to commercial strawberry cultivars. Over a period of several years we have tried to prepare a fully reliable indexing scheme to detect these viruses. Twelve different Fragaria vesca and F. virginiana indicator clones have been tested for their sensitivity to these viruses, alone or in combination. Some of these indicators were clearly sensitive to the three viruses; others reacted to one virus only, whereas some reacted only slightly or gave no reaction.
