CAPSID PROTEIN OF PLUM POX POTYVIRUS : STRUCTURE AND COMPARISON WITH THAT OF OTHER POTYVIRUSES

Authors:   M. Ravelonandro, R. Delbos, C. Varveri, J. Dunez
Abstract:
Amino acid analysis of the coat proteins from different potyviruses can be used as a tool for virus characterization. Sequence determination of coat protein of plum pox virus (PPV) suggested that PPV capsid protein, with 330 amino acids and a molecular weight of 36,500, is one of the longest sequenced capsid proteins of the potyvirus group. Data sequence and hydrophilicity profiles of the PPV coat protein have been compared with those of 5 other potyviruses. This comparison revealed that PPV and the other potyviruses share highly homologous regions towards the C-terminal region, and that the major differences are located in the N-terminal region of the coat protein.
