SUSCEPTIBILITY OF APRICOT CULTIVARS TO PLUM POX VIRUS IN GREECE

Author:   I. Karayiannis
Abstract:
Forty two apricot cultivars were examined for their susceptibility to plum pox virus (PPV) infection, in the area of Skydra in Central Macedonia of Northern Greece. Observations were carried on for four vegetative periods, from 1984 to 1987. All the studied cvs. were considerably susceptible to PPV, except for the resistant cultivars Early Orange and Stella. Among the rest, cvs. Harcot, Nonno, and Blenril showed relatively small susceptibility, whereas quality cvs. Bebecou, Blenheim, Boccucia, Bergeron, Screara e.t.c. presented a medium susceptibility. The Greek cvs. Hyperproimo Porou, Proimo Tirynthos, Diamantopoulou and the foreign origin ones Precoce de Tunisie, Ouardi, Sayeb and Kishinevska Rana were among the most susceptible apricot cultivars.
