ISHS Acta Horticulturae 235: XIV International Symposium on Fruit Tree Virus Diseases

THE EPIDEMIOLOGY OF PLUM POX VIRUS IN THE APRICOT ORCHARDS OF SOUTHERN FRANCE: DESCRIPTION OF COMPUTER TOOLS AND MAIN OBSERVATIONS.

Author:   G. MORVAN
Abstract:
Sharka is a severe threat for apricot industry in South-East of France. Though it was introduced 27 years ago, it affects up to now a rather limited number of trees if we consider orchards as a whole. A systematic study of the data collected during the surveys made by the Plant Protection Service for eliminating diseased trees was decided in 1982. Some computer programs have been developed for analysing the data and studying the spreading of the disease in orchards.

It seems posssible to contain the disease for years, at least till we may get resistant cultivars, as long as orchards are regularly surveyed and infected trees destroyed.
