Abstract:
Sweet cherry cultivars were greenhouse inoculated by double budding them simultaneously on Prunus mahaleb seedlings with pure cultures of viruses.
Only 14 of 52 cultivars expressed symptoms of cherry mottle leaf, and these symptoms were classified as severe or very severe with only one milder.
Twenty-five of 54 expressed symptoms of cherry twisted leaf.
No cultivars had very severe symptoms, and only two expressed severe symptoms.
Fourteen of 49 developed symptoms of apricot ring pox which were expressed as cherry twisted leaf in cherry.
Because Bing reacted intensely to the three kinds of inocula, and it is also a good indicator of other viruses, a replacement indicator does not appear justified.
