Abstract:
By introducing comparable and compatible certification schemes and quality control systems on an national and international level, goals can be realised to improve the quality of propagating material of ornamental crops.
An outline is given for the production and certification of pathogentested material.
Elimination and control of virus-diseases are essential elements in these productionschemes of vegetatively propagated ornamentals.
Propagating material can be divided into three certification-categories: nuclear stock, propagation stock and certified stock.
Planting material from each of these certificationclasses is used for different purposes.
In the Netherlands, certification schemes are in operation for carnation, chrysanthemum, freesia and pelargonium.
The N.A.K.S. is the responsible organisation for visual inspection, control testing and issuing the certificates.
