Abstract:
A test method consisting of soil sampling, analysis of physical and chemical properties and nematode occurrence, a bioassay conducted in field, disease index and a standard is presented.
The field bioassay for specific apple replant disease (SARD) was first tried in 1985 in a commercial apple orchard.
This bioassay might be an alternative to other methods as it reviews the SARD situation more objectively through the use of several Malus-rootstock types as test plants combined with a plum-rootstock as an indicator of specifity and a disease index.
Fruit growers and nursery men may easily perform the test by themselves without great investments.
