PLAN FOR A POSTGRADUATE COURSE OF STUDIES ON DECIDUOUS FRUIT TREES IN TROPICAL HIGHLANDS OF COLUMBIA |

| Abstract:
Deciduous fruit production is poorly developed in Columbia reaching only 5% of its own requirements. The main reason for insufficient production is lack of technical know-how, particularly since there is no special training in deciduous fruit production. Therefore, the Pedagogical and Technological University of Columbia in Tunja, with the assistance of the Technical University of Berlin, intends to establish a postgraduate course in deciduous fruit tree science in 1988. To be accepted, applicants must have a first degree in an agricultural or related subject and at least two years of professional experience. The postgraduate course is to consist of two years of four terms each. The first year consists of intensive studies, specializing in deciduous fruit production and particular local requirements, with equal amounts of theory and practice. After submitting a short dissertation, successful students will be awarded the certificate "Deciduous Fruit Tree Specialist"; this is also the qualification for entry into the second year of the course, where the main emphasis will be on physiology, scientific methods and elective special subjects. After successful completion of the master's thesis, students will be awarded an M.Sc. in deciduous fruit production. | |
