Abstract:
Ten orchards of five counties of Rio Grande do Sul State were evaluated in relation to plant losses due to root rots, in 1985 and 1986. During this period, 66 224 plants out of 821 361 (8.06%) of different cultivars died.
The total loss corresponds to an orchard of 49.7 ha with an estimated value of Cz$ 29 500 805 00 (US$ 602 057). On the basis of visual symptoms, the most common root rot seemed to be associated to Phytophthora spp.
This was confirmed through isolations from root and soil samples.
