| Abstract:
A field trial was carried out during 1986/87 at the Research Station of São Joaquim, Santa Catarina State, Brazil, in order to determine the effect of NAA, Carbaryl and hand thinning at different timings and concentrations, on the percentage of decrease in fruit set, average fruit weight and quality of apples. The cultivar 'Gala/MM-106' was used in a randomized block design, with 12 treatments and 5 replicates. The treatments were NAA 10 ppm with and without mineral oil 0.25% applied at 5, 10 and 14 days after full bloom (DAFB); Carbaryl 0.1% with and without mineral oil 0.25% applied at 20 DAFB; NAA 7.5 ppm applied at 5 DAFB + Carbaryl 0.05% applied at 20 DAFB, both with and without mineral oil 0.25%; hand thinning done at 25 DAFB leaving 1 fruit per cluster; and a control (no thinning). The best result was obtained with NAA 7.5 ppm applied at 5 DAFB + Carbaryl 0.05% applied at 20 DAFB, both in combination with mineral oil 0.25%. The best time for NAA 10 ppm application was at 5 and 10 DAFB. | |
