Abstract:
Eight papers for oral presentation were listed, of which 4 were presented.
However, the subject generated a lot of interest and a good discussion took place.
Reports on redumption of symptoms through the use of metabolites were of special interest and it was suggested that the reports on the anti-metabolites may be confirmed.
The special lecture on mango malformation was given by Dr.
Anupam Verma, who highlighted the work done on this problem in detail.
At the present moment, very limited basic work is in progress on mango malformation.
Work needs to be intensified on the metabolites and anti-metabolites of mango malformation for devising control methods.
Involvement of Fusarium moniliformea as a distinct pathogen, both the vegetative and floral malformation, needs to be examined for confirmation both in India and other countries facing the problem.
Authentic cultures will be made available in India by IARI for inoculation for testing under glasshouse conditions.
The claims for the control/reduction in the intensity of mango malformation, so far put forth needs to be finally verified and tested.
Hence an experiment including all these claims needs to be carried out.
The treatments suggested are:
- NAA 200 ppm spray in October,
- Deblossoming at bud burst stage,
- Combination of (a) + (b) treatments,
- Potassium metabisulphite 1 per cent spray,
- Metasystox (0.25 per cent) and
- Control.
At present, mango malformation is not known to be present in many mango growing centres.
Precautions should help to ward off introduction of the diseases in such centres.
