Abstract:
The tree ripened fruits showed 19 per cent occurrence under Paria conditions.
The affected fruits were found to be damaged maximum (57.89 per cent) in the lower part (apex) of the fruit as compared to middle part (26.32 per cent) and upper part (15.79 per cent). In case of naturally affected fruits, the lower part was significantly more affected than the middle and upper parts, and entire fruit at both the locations, that is, at Paria (Bulsar) and Gandevi (Bulsar). Similar trend was noticed in the affected fruits obtained from Tengurla and Junagadh.
However, the maximum damage was found to occur in middle part in all the sun exposure treatments given to post-harvest mature Alphonso fruits between 10.30 and 14.00 h.
This indicates that heat has some relation with spongy tissue occurrence in Alphonso fruits which requires confirmation.
