THE USE OF IMAGE PROCESSING UNDER GREENHOUSE CONDITIONS FOR GROWTH AND CLIMATE CONTROL

Author:   G.R. Hack
Abstract:
An image processing system is tested under greenhouse conditions for on-line measurements of growth of lettuce. By using the near-infrared region from 750 –1100 nm for recording the image, the background behind the plant can be eliminated. The experiments show, that there is a correlation between global radiation and measured leaf area values. The contrast between soil and plant decreases at high radiation level. So, it is necessary to correct the used grey level in accordance to the radiation intensity. An evaluation of the relation between fresh weight and recorded leaf area of the plants gives the best accordance with an exponential regression equation. However, the equation describes precisely only the relation in the first growing period. Therefore modifications of the initial equation are required for the others growing periods.
