Abstract:
Regeneration of hyacinth bulb scale segments in vitro was investigated under standard growth conditions.
Bulblet regeneration was strongly promoted by placing the explants upside-down on the medium and increasing the length of the explants.
Regeneration of bulblets was hardly affected by the concentration of macro-elements or glucose.
The optimal temperature was 13 to 17°C. Continuous light inhibited regeneration as compared with darkness.
IAA promoted bulblet regeneration, whereas kinetin slightly decreased it.
Regeneration was decreased by GA3. A clear correlation between the number of bulblets per explant and the fresh or dry weight production of bulblets could not be found.
