ISHS Acta Horticulturae 23: I International Symposium on Flowerbulbs

EXPORT INSPECTION OF FLOWERBULBS IN THE NETHERLANDS

Author:   J.A.J. Veenenbos
Abstract:
About 80 per cent of the flowerbulb production of The Netherlands is exported. Phytosanitary regulations of the importing countries require both a field inspection and an export inspection, and in addition to satisfying these phytosanitary regulations, bulbs intended for export must also meet the quality requirements of the Dutch government. The export inspection is done by the Plant Protection Service. The field inspection is carried out jointly by the Flowerbulb Inspection Service and the Plant Protection Service. Last year, when the total export amounted to 110 million kilograms, about 400,000 lots were examined in the exporters' shipping-rooms.
