STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS ON BULB HOLDINGS IN THE NETHERLANDS

Author:   W.G. de Haan
Abstract:
In Dutch bulb growing an increase of scale has led to a reduction in the number of holdings and to an increase of the acreage given to bulbs per holding. The corresponding changes in production techniques during recent years have brought tulip growing into the sphere of non-specialized arable farms. Due to this development, the total tulip acreages show a greater increase in the new localities than in the traditional centres.

To answer the question whether tulip growing is losing its place on specialized bulb growing holdings, an investigation was performed by means of linear programming.
