OCCURRENCE AND IMPORTANCE OF VIRUSES INFECTING NARCISSUS IN BRITAIN |

| Abstract:
Of the six aphid-borne viruses infecting Narcissus in Britain, narcissus yellow stripe and narcissus white streak are damaging but rarely prevalent, narcissus latent virus is widespread but unimportant, and an undescribed filamentous virus and cucumber mosaic are both associated with a severe and prevalent disease in 'Grand Soleil d'Or'. Jonquil mild mosaic occurs only in N. jonquilla. All five nematode-borne viruses are well-known pathogens; tobacco rattle induces leaf mottling, but arabis mosaic, tomato black ring, strawberry latent ringspot and raspberry ringspot individually induce inconspicuous symptoms. Narcissus mosaic is widespread and sufficiently infectious to be spread by mechanical methods. | |
