Abstract:
Aster yellows was first found in gladiolus crops in the Netherlands in the summer of 1967. Transmission experiments from infected gladiolus to Vinca rosea with the leafhopper vector Macrosteles sexnotatus gave positive results.
The present experimental results show that infected corms can be freed of the disease by hot-water treatment at 50°C for at least one hour.
The application of systemic insecticides in the field reduced spreading of the disease.
