Abstract:
Inoculation of bulbs with Ordinary and Yellow strains of cucumber mosaic virus (CMV-O and CMV-Y) before sprouting showed pathogenicity on tulips.
The growth of tulips after inoculation was investigated.
The bulb production of tulips infected with CMV in the planting and sprouting stages was 50–60 per cent as compared to the production of healthy tulips, but there was no marked difference in the bulb yield of either plants inoculated after the two-leaf stage or healthy ones.
Preliminary experiments on the effect of chemical and temperature treatments on tulip bulbs are also described.
