Abstract:
The white skin of young tulip bulbs possesses a barrier against infection by Fusarium oxysporum Schlecht. f. tulipea Apt.
In extracts of white skin tissue, tulipalin ( -methylenebutyrolactone) is the only factor that inhibited the growth of the fungus in vitro.
A precursor of tulipalin, isolated from white skins and bulb scales, was studied.
Special attention was given to the enzymatic breakdown of this precursor.
